Wake Up in Kanazawa:
Where to Find the City’s Hidden
Breakfast and Coffee Gems

Angolo Caffé

In Japan, there isn’t a strong culture of going out for breakfast, and Kanazawa is no exception. Many cafés and restaurants don’t open until much later, which can be frustrating for travelers who are eager to start their day with a special meal and a great cup of coffee. For many travelers, waking up early is part of the joy of discovering a new place. That’s why breakfast is more than just a meal; it’s an unforgettable part of their journey.

hile wandering through Kanazawa’s quiet morning streets, you’ll often find your options limited to convenience stores or the usual café chains. Both are reliable, but far from memorable.

These hidden gems open early and serve breakfasts that are truly worth waking up for. Their unique menus and perfectly brewed morning coffee will surprise your senses and provide a welcome start to
your day full of adventure in Kanazawa! Each of these charming cafés offers a unique, cozy escape. They provide a gentle pause from the everyday hustle and bustle that will bring a sense of serenity and charm to your trip.

Espresso Bar Keseran Pasaran

Some of My Favorite Brekkie Spots in Central Kanazawa

Espresso Bar Keseran Pasaran

These three cafés are my go-to spots for a relaxed morning. I still remember the croissant sandwich from Angolo Caffè, a cozy spot not far from Kanazawa Station. It was probably the crunchiest and most delicate I’ve ever had, filled with fresh arugula and savory ham, light yet full of flavor. Their Italian donut, filled with silky caramel cream, also completely won me over, and it paired perfectly with a cup of their rich, aromatic espresso.

This breakfast plate from POP BY COFFEE, just a short walk from the Nagamachi Samurai District, was just as satisfying as it looked. Toast layered with rich, tomato meat sauce and melty cheese, served with a vibrant salad, came together beautifully. I had it with a refreshing lemon squash, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with their coffee or matcha latte, either!

Just look at the cut of this fully loaded toasted sandwich from Espresso Bar Keseran Pasaran, tucked along Shintatemachi Street, where unique independent shops and trendy boutiques line the path! This café also attracts coffee connoisseurs who know exactly what they want, and the baristas are always happy to tailor each cup to their taste.
