Sakura Matsuri Festival
[Daishoji]
Kaga Shinmei-gu Shrine, also called the Yamashita Shrine, is known locally for hosting the Sakura Matsuri Festival every April. This festival features portable “mikoshi” shrines and “shishimai” lion dances that parade down the streets.

Shobu-yu Matsuri Festival
[Yamanaka/Yamashiro/Katayamazu]
On June 4, iris leaves (shobu) are thrown into the town’s hot springs as a prayer for good health. The highlight of the festival is the impressive night parade, where portable shrines are loaded with straw bags containing iris leaves.

Yamashiro Daidengaku Festival
[Yamashiro]
Dengaku is a traditional ritual music and dance performance originating 800-1200 years ago. The festival features local performers and famous actors, along with mystical flute music, bonfires, and lively dancing.

Guzu-yaki Matsuri Festival
[Iburihashi]
This dynamic festival, marking the end of summer, is largely associated with a giant papier-mâché sculpture of a “guzu” fish. Originating around 200 years ago, people carry the “guzu” through the streets before burning it at Furihashi Shrine.

Juman-goku Matsuri Festival
[Daishoji]
This large annual festival celebrates the rich culture that has developed in Kaga City. Locals dressed in kimonos perform a folk dance in circles while a portable “mikoshi” shrine adorned with lanterns parades through the town, accompanied by music.

Koi-Koi Matsuri Festival
[Yamanaka]
Held each September, the Koi-Koi Matsuri is Yamanaka Onsen’s largest festival. It marks the beginning of autumn and attracts visitors for two days of excitement. The parade featuring a large “shishimai” lion is not to be missed.
